Web Of Science

The Web of Science is a core resource for author, cited author and cited work searches. The name, Web of Science, is misleading for the database covers the sciences, social sciences and humanities. It is one of the largest scholarly databases to which Healey Library subscribes.

Author Search

Example:  Jacqueline Fawcett
Search:  Fawcett, J*

  • The author search in the Web of Science retrieves journal articles only.
  • Use the wildcard asterisk * as recommended by Web of Science to retrieve all variations of Fawcett's first name.
  • If you are searching a very common name such as Smith M*, use the Organizations under Refine Results to target your search.
  • The results shows who the author is and how many times that paper has been cited.

Cited Author Search

Example: Fawcett, J*

  • The Cited Author search retrieves all types of publications - articles, books, book chapters, conference papers, pre-publications, etc. It is searching the works cited in an article's bibliography.
  • Use the wildcard asterisk * as recommended by Web of Science to retrieve all variations of Fawcett's name.
