Accessibility at the Healey Library

The Healey Library is committed to providing library materials and services to all users.

Research Assistance

All library patrons are welcome to sign up for a research consultation with a Reference Librarian.

Please see the Reference, Outreach, and Instruction departmental webpage for a description of reference and research services available at the 4th floor Reference Desk and with the Reference Librarians.

Please see our Reference and Research Consultation Services Policies for more information and guidance about the services we provide our patrons..

If you require an accommodation for your consultation with a librarian, such as the use of a screen reader or other assistive technology, please let us know in advance, if possible, so that the librarians may make the necessary arrangements for your meeting. You may also contact the reference librarians at Library.Reference@umb.edu with any questions about the electronic accessibility of any of our resources.

Document Delivery Service

Healey Library’s Document Delivery service can be used to request scans of book chapters, microfilm, or bound periodicals in our collections.  Document Delivery scans must adhere to fair use copyright law. For books, we can provide a scan of one book chapter or up to 10% of the total page count, whichever is greater. For bound journals and microfilm held by Healey Library, you can request as many scans as you need. If you are eligible for academic accommodations through the Ross Center for Disability and need a scan of a full book or books, please contact the Ross Center at 617-287-7430 or ross.center@umb.edu.

To request Document Delivery scanning, log in to your ILLiad account and select “copy” from the format menu.  You will be asked to supply citation information for the item you’d like to request from UMBrella.

Files are delivered via ILLiad within 1-2 business days as PDFs with OCR text-recognition enabled. You will receive an email to notify you that the PDFs are ready. If you’re requesting a large volume of scanned content, please give our staff extra time to complete your request. Requests are processed in the order in which they are received.

Locating and Retrieving Library Materials

The Healey Library's website is accessible. The databases available through the library website contain thousands of accessible journal articles. Please contact the reference librarians at library.reference@umb.edu or call 617-287-5940 with any questions about electronic accessibility.

If you need assistance retrieving any printed material from the library stacks, the staff  at the Circulation Desk will help you - depending on staff availability. You may arrange to have materials ready for pick up by an agreed upon time, within 24 hours notice (Monday-Friday).

If you are unable to come to the library due to a disability, email the circulation department library.circulation@umb.edu or call 617-287-5900 to designate a person who will pick up the materials for you.

If you require extended borrowing time, inform the circulation staff when you are checking out materials.
