STATISTICAL ABSTRACTS
Statistical Abstract of the United States
This is a good starting point for locating statistical data. It includes business, crime, economic, education, health, population, science data and more. Much of the data is at a national level, but it also includes some state, city, and international data.
It can be hard to find the statistics that you want at the level that you want. You can use the Statistical Abstract to lead you to right the source. The original source may also have more current data than the tables in Statistical Abstract. At the bottom of every table, Statistical Abstract indicates the source or sources of the data in the table.
Most data is available in both Excel and PDF format.
Example:
In the 2012 Statistical Abstract, you can find statistics on the number, capacity, and generation of nuclear power plants. This data came from the U.S. Energy Information Administration and is dated April 2011. The link to the Monthly Energy Review is given with the Source information. You will find current information there.
