Resources for Online Learners

The Healey Library at the University of Massachusetts Boston provides a number of electronic resources (books, articles, journals, streaming video etc), and services for Distance Learners. We subscribe to e-books, e-journals and over 200 online databases which are available to the students, staff and faculty. We also provide online library research help and assistance with using libraries in your area. Many of these resources are available anytime, anywhere.

    Library Access

Library resources are obtained through a barcode which enables online students to access all electronic resources, use InterLibrary Loan for copies and email the library with reference questions. Online students may access the UMB electronic library by means of a barcode. To obtain a barcode an online student must call 617-287-5900 or email and give:

    • Name as appears at registration
    • UMS number
    • Email address

Once the library has received the information, the student will be sent an email with barcode information. In order to access some resources from remote locations, pop-ups must be enabled. If you have problems with remote access go to the Frequently Asked Questions about Off-Campus Access Information.
