Confidentiality When Conducting Remote Research

  • HIPAA Compliant Zoom: IT does not subscribe to any HIPAA compliant zoom licenses, but will work with faculty and departments to purchase as needed.

  • Demonstrate care and concern for the participants safety and confidentiality

  • Check with people you need to talk to make sure you are using methods that they can access.

  • Consider allowing for written answers so the participant doesn’t need to worry about being overheard 

  •  Make it easier for people to talk without disclosing information to anyone within earshot (yes/no answers, multiple choice)

Software for Data Analysis

  • NVivo12 for qualitative analysis: Free download — Write software@umb.edu to request activation code and download link. Note that we have limited licenses and may not be able to fulfill your request. License expires 10/1/20

  • MATLAB: No cost. Can be installed on university-owned computers and personal standalone computers owned by staff and faculty

  • R: R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms, Windows and MacOS.
