Remote Access to Library Resources via OpenAthens

This guide provides information for remote access to UMB online library resources via OpenAthens. OpenAthens was launched on June 21, 2022.

Temporary Library Account Policy for New Faculty

Healey Library will create temporary OpenAthens accounts for e-resource access for new faculty members, whose @umb.edu accounts may not be ready. New faculty will receive an email with instructions on how to activate and use the account.

  • New Tenure-Track Faculty who start in fall semester: The accounts will be automatically created in late July / early August and are valid for 30 days after the first day of the fall semester.
  • New Tenure-Track Faculty who start in spring semester: They can request an account by emailing library.systems@umb.edu with their department chair CCed, or their department chair can request the account on behalf of the new faculty. Accounts will be created within 2-4 business days and are valid for 30 days after the first day of the spring semester.
  • New Non Tenure-Track Faculty: They can request an account by emailing library.systems@umb.edu with their department chair CCed, or their department chair can request the account on behalf of the new faculty. Accounts will be created within 2-4 business days and are valid for 30 days.

Before accessing library resources, faculty using an OpenAthens account need to first log in at https://my.openathens.net/auth (please avoid using the "Find Your Institution" link, which is reserved for those with @umb.edu accounts).

Once the new faculty member has their @umb.edu account, they can skip this step. We ask that faculty use their @umb.edu account as soon as it becomes available.

Faculty will not be able to access the following resources with the OpenAthens account: Covidence, Sports & Fitness Industry Association, and the Boston Business Journal.
