Remote Access to Library Resources via OpenAthens

This guide provides information for remote access to UMB online library resources via OpenAthens. OpenAthens was launched on June 21, 2022.

What is OpenAthens?

OpenAthens is our new sign-in method for off-campus access to library resources – articles, books, journals, and media. It has replaced our old method, EZproxy. Either way, you can still sign in with your UMB username and password. That has not changed.

Transition to OpenAthens: What You Need To Know and Do

Different Login Screen and Microsoft MFA

When you click on a library resource link, you will get the same login interface and steps as webmail.umb.edu to log in for Library resources, using your email address and password. Similar to Microsoft MFA for webmail.umb.edu, MFA is also required for OpenAthens.

Update your Bookmarks, Saved Links, and Reading List Links!

You will need to update any bookmarks, saved links, and reading list links that contain ezproxy.lib.umb.edu. Visit the "Update your URLs for OpenAthens" page. Many of the EZproxy links will continue to work for another year after launch. We suggest you update them as soon as possible, especially since there are several popular resources that can no longer use EZproxy.

The library will update all the links in UMBrella, our Research Guides, and in the share URLs features that our databases offer.
