The basic format is author last name and date (Green 2022).
- For two authors: (Green & Brown 2022)
- For three or more authors (Green et al., 2022)
- Multiple works in one citation: (Jones, 2015; Smith, 2014).
- Group/ organization as author - 1st mention: (World Health Organization [WHO], 2020)
- Subsequent mentions: (WHO, 2020)
- If there's no common abbreviation, all mentions will remain unabbreviated
- When a work has no identified author, cite in text the first few words of the article title using double quotation marks, “headline- style” capitalization, and the year.
- (“Barcelona to Ban Burqa,” 2010)
- If there is no date include n.d. in it's place: ("Barcelona to Ban Burqa," n.d.)
- Author names in the narrative: Gass and Varonis found that the most important element in comprehending non-native speech is familiarity with the topic (2023).
- For direct quotes include the page number: (Smith, 2019, p. 112)
- If the quote is on more than one page (Smith, 2019, pp. 112-113)
- If there isn't a page number, include a substitute: (Smith, 2019, paras. 4–5)
- This could be paragraph (paras.), verse number, table number, section number, heading, etc.
