Distance Education Resources and Services for Online Learners

Library Vocabulary

When you need help with library terms consult the Multilingual Glossary for Today's Library Users

The Healey Library at the University of Massachusetts Boston provides a number of electronic resources (books, articles, journals, streaming video, etc), and services. We subscribe to ebooks, journal finder and over 200 online databases which are available to the students, staff and faculty. We also provide online library research help and assistance with using libraries in your area. Most of these resources are available anytime, anywhere.

Library Barcode

Online students or students taking classes off-campus may telephone the Circulation Desk at 617-287-5900 to be assigned a barcode over the phone. An online barcode can only be used for InterLibrary Loan. Please have your UMS number and your mailing address ready for confirmation. All online and off-campus classes will be verified by the circulation staff.

To log into our online resources, enter your campus username and password. If you want to borrow physical materials, you will need to get a Beacon Card and come to the library to upgrade your barcode.

In order to access some resources from remote locations, pop-ups must be enabled. If you have problems with remote access go to the Frequently Asked Questions about Off-Campus Access Information.

Ask a Librarian

The library staff is here to help you find any book, article or material that you need to succeed with your papers and projects.
