Module 6: Evaluating Sources

• Intended for the educated reader, but not necessarily the scholar

• Opinions or viewpoints on cultural or political affairs, usually with a particular bias

• Good for comparing points of view. Look at a political topic in both The Nation and The National Review to see vast differences of opinion

• Ex. The American Spectator, Christianity Today, Dissent, Harper's, Mother Jones, The Nation, National Review, New Republic, Progressive

Opinion magazines typically have a narrow focus. Trade publications are another type of periodical with a limited scope.
