What is ILLiad?
ILLiad is the software that Healey Library uses to manage its interlibrary loan service. Here, you can request new materials, track statuses, and renew your current loans from other libraries.
The ILLiad acronym stands for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.
Step 1: Confirm the status of your UMB email address
To make use of Interlibrary Loan, you will need a UMass Boston email address. Email accounts are created automatically upon enrollment or employment. Read more about email activation here.
Step 2: Double Check UMBrella for your material
Before requesting an item through ILL, have you checked to see if it's available in UMBrella? You might save yourself some valuable time; requests for materials the library owns or has access to will be cancelled, unless they are scanning requests.
Step 3: Log In to ILLiad
You will log in to your ILLiad account with your library barcode. Choose which type of resource you would like to request under the “New Request” menu:
Please report any ILL login issues to Library.Circulation@umb.edu
Step 4: Place a Request
Please fill out the request form with as much information as possible. The more details you provide, the faster we can get the item for you!
A separate request must be submitted for each article or book needed.
TIP: if you include a full citation with ISXN and all relevant information, your request will be processed and sent to lenders automatically. If any information is missing or incorrect, ILL Staff will need to review the request before it is sent to potential lenders.
Who can borrow?
Current students, faculty, retired faculty, and staff of UMass Boston may request materials through Interlibrary Loan. Alumni of UMass Boston, and students attending other institutions are not eligible to use Interlibrary Loan services at the Healey Library, and they should contact their current institution or their local public library for interlibrary loan service.
